The Shoppers opened their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Fortune Sacco last Sunday at Kianyanga Stadium in Kirinyaga County, thanks to a decisive strike from Francis Nambute.
Speaking ahead of the weekend clash, Naivas' head coach, Elvis Ayani, expressed confidence in his squad but warned of a stern test from MCF, who will be desperate to bounce back after losing their opener.
“It’s going to be a competitive clash because MCF will come hungry for their first win,” said Ayani.
MCF suffered a 1-0 defeat to Mombasa United in their opening game at the MCF Sports Complex in Ndalani.
Beyond Saturday’s encounter, the former Kibera Black Stars coach and ex-KCB FC assistant urged the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to secure a sponsor for the second-tier league, which has gone six years without a major backer.
Ayani noted that the lack of financial support has forced some teams to issue walkovers, fail to honour fixtures, or field incomplete squads in past seasons.
“The cost of travelling upcountry for most of these games is very high. FKF should prioritise finding a league sponsor to help ease these operational challenges,” he said.
The NSL features 20 clubs from across Kenya and is regarded as a vital feeder to the top-flight, FKF Premier League.

Despite the logistical and financial hurdles, Ayani remains optimistic that Naivas can build on their bright start and mount a serious promotion bid after falling short in the Promotion/Relegation Playoffs in the past two seasons.
Naivas currently sits second in the NSL standings with three points, level with leaders Nzoia Sugar, and will be looking to push for a top-flight ticket this term.
