Kizza, who played with the former Harambee Stars captain at Canadian outfit CF Montreal, joined Nairobi United in the January mid-season transfer window from Ugandan club NEC FC and has since formed a great partnership with Otiende on the left side of the pitch.

Primarily a left back, the 26-year-old has been pushed further up the field in the left wing role, where they interchange with Otiende at free will.

Speaking after the two tormented Sofapaka and guided Naibois to a 1-0 victory, Otiende hailed the understanding between them.

“Playing with Kizza has been great as he makes it easy to play with him. He is a good and more mature player. He has good deliveries on the attack, which the team is utilising while I do the defensive work,” said Otiende.

“We also complement each other in both roles and have been deployed interchangeably, but I believe I am better at left back,” he added.

Otiende proved to be the difference as his 41st-minute strike from outside the box with his weaker right foot granted Naibois the three points.

“It was my second goal in the league in my debut season, and it gives me so much joy. I had a target of three goals and two assists at the start of the season, and I am a goal and an assist away from my target,” he stated.

The soft-spoken, versatile player also expressed his desire to get back to the national team after missing out on coach Benni McCarthy’s squad for the upcoming FIFA Series tournament.

“I just need to work extra hard on an individual capacity, improve myself everyday and hopefully receive a call up to the next camp.”

Next up for the defending Mozzart Bet Cup champions is a clash against AFC Leopards in one of their three games in hand, a match Otiende is confident of a win.

“We are currently on a good run, and so we will keep pushing and working hard until the end of the season to lift at least a trophy. We take this spirit to the Leopards match, where we also hope to collect maximum points,” he remarked.
