The meeting comes at a time when Kenya, in addition to co-hosting AFCON 2027, could also be named among CHAN 2024 hosts

Nairobi is set to host the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee meeting on Monday, 16 September 2024, as per an official statement on Friday.

The meeting, scheduled for an 1100 A.M start as per CAF, will be chaired by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, but no agenda has been communicated to the press.

It is however highly speculated that the meeting will provide clarity around the postponed 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which Kenya is among the nations expected to host.

CAF is yet to announce the dates and the hosts of the tournament, but with the meeting coming home, strong indications are that Kenya, alongside Tanzania and Uganda, will indeed get the hosting rights, having expressed interest to do so in the famed EA Pamoja Bid.

As part of an attempt to host the biennial championships specially designed for local-based players, the three East African nations having won the bid to stage the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, requested CAF permission to use CHAN as a preparatory competition for the Africa Cup of Nations.

It now appears that a resolution has been passed, and this follows a couple of CAF inspection visits done in the country to assess its level of preparedness.

Perhaps pre-empting any official CAF communication, FUFA Executive Committee Member Rogers Byamukama in the past few weeks hinted that it was all clear for the three nations stating: "The information that we have is that CHAN will be happening, and the three East African Pamoja countries will be given those rights to host.”

Byamukama also stated that the competition would run from 1 - 28 February next year (2025).

If confirmed on Monday, it will be the first time Kenya will be hosting the competition, having failed in its bid in 2018.

Following the EXCO meeting, CAF will turn its attention for the 46th CAF Ordinary General Assembly in Kinshasa, DRC on Thursday 10 October 2024.
