Rumours indicate that the tactician is likely to join a Tanzanian team
National Super League side, Nairobi City Stars, has parted ways with head coach Salim Babu and his assistant, Patrick Gitagia, following the expiry of their contracts.
Babu joined the Kawangware-based side in January 2025, midway through the 2025/26 season, while the team was still competing in the FKF Premier League with the task to avoid the chop.

His arrival came at a turbulent period, and despite his efforts, the former Kenya Police and Nzoia Sugar coach could not prevent relegation to the lower tier.
Following the conclusion of the season, Babu opted to remain with Nairobi City Stars, determined to lead the team’s immediate push for promotion back to the top flight.
While the Simba Wa Nairobi enjoyed an encouraging start to the current NSL campaign under the one-time Mozzart Bet Cup winning coach, their form soon faltered.
A recent four-match winless streak, including three losses and a draw, further complicated the club’s promotion ambitions.
In its statement, Nairobi City Stars expressed appreciation for the contributions of both coaches stating;
“Nairobi City Stars announces the departure of Head Coach Salim Babu following the conclusion of his contract, as he chooses to pursue new opportunities. Assistant Coach Patrick also leaves the club after his contract came to an end.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to both coaches for their unwavering commitment, passion, and invaluable contribution to the team. Their impact will always be appreciated. We wish them nothing but success and fulfillment in the next chapter of their journey.”
The timing of the departures is critical, with just eleven matches remaining in the season.
Nairobi City Stars now faces the challenge of reigniting its promotion push under new leadership to secure a return to the FKF Premier League.
