After two seasons without the spark both hoped for, it's time for something new

AC Milan have finally closed a chapter that never truly opened. After months of negotiations, the Rossoneri have mutually agreed to terminate Divock Origi's contract, bringing an end to a complicated and unfulfilled relationship.

Italian outlets, including La Gazzetta dello Sport and Sky Sport Italia, confirm that all paperwork has now been signed. Origi's deal was due to run until June 2026, but both sides accepted that the connection had long been broken.

Signed on a free transfer from Liverpool in 2022, the Belgian forward of Kenyan origins arrived with pedigree and expectations. What followed, however, was a story of misalignment. Different ideas, different needs, and a partnership that never found rhythm.

Origi made just 27 appearances and scored twice, netting against Monza and Sassuolo, before being loaned to Nottingham Forest for the 2023-24 season. His last appearance in a Milan shirt came back in May 2023.

When he returned to San Siro in July 2024, there was no path back into the first team. In an attempt to resolve the situation, the club placed him with Milan Futuro, but the sporting separation was already complete. Origi never featured again.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the contract was worth around €300,000 per month, roughly €4 million net per season - a figure that made negotiations delicate and prolonged. During that period, Origi focused on maintaining his fitness independently, working with a personal trainer away from Milanello.

In the end, this was not about blame. It was about reality. A signing that made sense on paper, but not on the pitch. Origi, at 30, closes a chapter that never found its place - ready, perhaps, to start another where the fit is right.
