Michael Mutinda joined KCB after suffering relegation with Thika United back in 2018.

KCB midfield lynchpin Michael Mutinda is probably enjoying one of his best seasons before the league halt but has opened up on his rough patch after joining the team from Thika United.

Mutinda joined KCB at the start of the 2018-2019 season after Thika United suffered relegation following a disappointing season that saw them finish the season anchored at the bottom of the standings.

Having to adapt to new teammates and a new set of tactics after Frank Ouna joined KCB at the start of the season after taking over from the then-interim coach Elvis Ayany, Mutinda laboured to settle down at the club.

“It was challenging at first there were new players who I joined the club with, they had really good players who were playing in my position and I struggled to gel with the players but I thank God I made it into the first 11,” he opened up to Mozzart Sport,

“It has been a lot of challenges along the way but now I believe I’m a key player in the team and I will continue to push hard for better results,” he added.

Mutinda however quickly settled to life into KCB and fitted seamlessly into the midfield becoming a vital cog in the side to date.

The lanky midfielder reiterated that KCB are on course to pick up their maiden league title despite trailing log leaders Tusker FC by six points before the league was brought to a halt.

“I believe we can challenge for the title, we are in second position and have a gap of siix points, that does not mean we will not come back.”

“We will go back to the drawing table, there are two matches to complete before starting the second leg and if we push we might be the champions,” added Mutinda

His impressive display this season has seen him earn a recall back to the Harambee Stars but he suffered an injury that led to him being dropped from the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers squad.
