Only one match remains before the 22/23 Tanzanian season draws to a close

Azam FC, home to Kenyan international Kenneth Muguna, need a point in order to book a ticket to next season’s 2023/2024 CAF Confederation Cup tournament.

This is after the ice cream makers recorded an important 0-2 win over Coastal Union on Tuesday evening in a result that, strengthened their grip on third place where they currently sit with a healthy goal difference (+17), two points ahead of fourth placed Singida Big Stars (+9).

In the penultimate league match played at the Mkwakwani Stadium, second half goals from DR Congo international Idris Mbombo and Zimbabwe’s Prince Dube helped the moneybags seal the important three points to, edge closer to continental football.

Abdul Sopu laid the ball on a plate for Mbombo who, headed into an empty net to give Azam the lead in the 58th minute before, Dube showed great composure in rounding the goalkeeper to slot into an empty net for the 0-2 win.

With only one game to go before the 2022/2023 Tanzanian Premier League comes to a close, Azam will be seeking to get the job done on the final day of the season when they take on Polisi Tanzania.

Elsewhere, Joash Onyango’s Simba thumped Polisi Tanzania 6-1 in their clash that took place at the Azam Complex with Burundian forward Saidi Ntibazonkiza proving to be a nuisance as he scored five goals in the emphatic win.

Ntibazonkiza, completed his hat trick in the opening twenty seven minutes as Simbas led 3-0 at the break.

Israel Patrick Mwenda and a fourth strike from Ntibazonkiza then made it five for Wekundu wa Msimbazi before Steven Mayala pulled one back. A late strike from the Burundian completed the 6-1 rout.
