Kenyan international midfielder Kenneth Muguna has expressed delight at the re-appointment of Engin Firat as Harambee Stars coach.
Firat has been given a three-year contract which he begins this month. Muguna who plays for Tanzanian side Azam said the Turkish coach was in the process of building something exciting with Harambee Stars and he is therefore happy with his reappointment.
“I was very happy to work with him though it was for a short time. He looked to me like someone who knew what he was doing and had embarked on the process. Iam therefore excited that he is coming back to continue with his work,” said Muguna.
He further revealed that Firat had given him plenty of confidence when he played against Uganda in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier away in Kampala.
“Before that match, we had a one on one talk and he encouraged me to express myself in the match. That was a big motivation to myself though I need to learn to express myself more and more.”
Muguna also expressed a deep desire to make a return to international football after a long absence occasioned by a one-year ban slapped on the country by world governing body Fifa over government interference.
“My desire is always to play for the national team and as long as I am active, I will want to feature for Harambee Stars. I am looking forward to make a return just like all the other players. It is going to be a bit challenging having been out for long but we are all professionals and we know what to do and what is expected of us.”
