Firat's charges play the 2018 World Cup hosts on Monday 16 October
Ahead of their high-profile friendly match where they face Russia as part of their preparations for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, Harambee Stars midfielder Kenneth Muguna has declared the team ready for action .
The Engin Firat-led side will play their final international friendly match on Monday, 16 October in Antalya, Turkey ahead of the qualifiers set to kickoff next month.
The Harambee Stars have been pooled in Group F against Ivory Coast, Gabon, Gambia, Burundi, and Seychelles.
“This is the third high-profile friendly match we have played this year. We feel ready and I am hopeful that come next month, we shall be fully prepared for the qualifiers,” said midfielder Muguna.
The team touched down in Turkey on 9 October and has been sharpening their claws ahead of the clash.
All players initially called up have checked into camp save for Johnstone Omurwa who is expected in Turkey today, Friday 13 October.
“The team is in high spirits ahead of the match which will be the last test match ahead of the Qualifiers,” added Muguna.
Stars have so far played Iran and Qatar this year in matches viewed as high-profile and Firat believes the matches will play a great role in helping Kenyan players get better opportunities outside the borders.
“Against Iran, we played well. Against Qatar, we got the result we wanted against the Asian champions. These friendlies are not just about results but opening up opportunities for Kenyan football,” said the coach.
