Former midfielder set to enroll for the forthcoming CAF level D coaching course
Former FC Talanta captain Patrick Muchiri is indebted to the club for supporting his bid to transition into coaching by sponsoring him to enroll for the forthcoming Confederations of African Football (CAF) level D coaching course.
Muchiri who prematurely hanged his boots in 2019 is among the scores of aspiring gaffers who have applied for the course set to be rolled out possibly next month.
The former midfielder was forced to cut short his football career thanks to a nagging knee injury but the club offered him a reprieve after elevating him to the rank of team manager.
Muchiri who boasts of a basic coaching badge obtained while active was last year called upon to temporarily fill the head coach slot following the exit of Ken Kenyatta and George Owoko who were on probation.
After the National Super League side confirmed Kenyatta as their boss, Muchiri was redeployed to take the trainer's role.
He says his dedication in serving the club for the last nine years saw the management embrace his idea of venturing in coaching by catering for the registration costs.
"The club supports my idea of acquiring coaching skills. I have received backing not only from our bosses but the other members of the technical bench. The club has paid for everything required by the trainers and I am thankful for their support," he said.
The St Anthony's Boys Kitale alumnus also expressed gratitude to former national U23 tactician and the current Wazito assistant coach John Kamau for encouraging and initiating him into coaching.

He also hailed Kenyatta for helping him understand the game better and challenging him to upgrade his coaching badges.
"Coach Kamau introduced me to coaching when he worked at Talanta. He has been supporting me all along and hopefully I will make him proud as well as achieve my long term dream. Coach Kenyatta had also helped me understand what it takes to be a good gaffer, " he added.
