Much as playing football is their core business, Wakhungila still sees the club as an important tool in the society, especially to the less fortunate
"An idle mind is the devil's workshop", were the words of City Harvest FC's patron, Bishop Emmanuel Wakhungila, when Mozzart Sport sought to understand why he formed the outfit at the height of the coronavirus pandemic.
The raft of measures enforced by the government to curb the spread of the highly infectious disease- including imposing lockdowns and curfews- had left many people without meaningful engagement.

Wakhungila observed that the long spells of inactivity had rendered his youthful flock vulnerable to social ills, potentially reversing the gains the society had made in having them productive and morally upright.
Ordinarily, a man of the cloth would have recommended a strict adherence to the scriptures to help resist the urge of slipping into bad company, but the spirit led Wakhungila to settle on football to keep the youth occupied.
The quick-thinking preacher set up a contest dubbed the Askofu Cup tournament, within Webuye, to bring together the young men whose daily bread had been affected by the pandemic.
The overnight success of the tournament in the inaugural edition was so enormous that Wakhungila picked outstanding players from his congregation and the neighbourhood, and formed the City Harvest FC.
"I did not want the young men to rest on oars, as I know an idle mind is the devil's workshop. I tried my best to keep them busy by playing football, and I am glad it worked.
In the process, City Harvest FC was born," recalled Wakhungila, who revealed that the club is fully owned by the Community Harvest Ministries Church.
What started like an afterthought meant to serve a short-term purpose has since grown in leaps and bounds, as the club has scaled through the ranks to reach the Western Region, Zone B.
Much as playing football is their core business, Wakhungila still sees the club as an important tool in society, especially for the less fortunate.
Wakhungila disclosed that the outfit taps talented players from humble backgrounds and helps them secure sports-driven scholarships in leading learning institutions.
"We balance football and studies at the club to ensure that no one is left behind. We scout promising players from humble backgrounds and try our best to help them fulfil their academic goals," he said.
The club's incredible rise has not been devoid of challenges, as Wakhungila opened up on the burden of sustaining day-to-day activities, meeting the logistical demands and kitting.
However, their burden for kits is off their shoulders after gaming giant, Mozzart Bet, delivered full uniforms and footballs, thanks to the firm's and game-changing initiative dubbed New Jersies for New Champions.
"We sincerely thank Mozzart Bet for donating the sporting material. It is very expensive to kit our players and run the club. This gesture will go a long way in ensuring our boys fight and for promotion to the next tier," added Wakhungila.
