KCB came close to winning the title in 2024 where they lost the final to Kenya Police FC
KCB FC booked a place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Mozzart Bet Cup with a 3-0 win over Chebaiywa Lions in a match played at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani.
KCB made it to the last 16 following a 3-0 win over Zetech University, while Chebaiywa secured a 2-0 victory over National Super League (NSL) club Gucha Stars.
KCB were impressive from onset and had the first opportunity barely a minute into it, but Ronald Makati shot straight to the goalkeeper.
The Bankers were back at it in the third minute, with Kelvin Etemesi coming close.
The next chance fell on Francis Kahiro who got to the end of a December Kisaka cross, but his header was blocked by Paul Okeyo in the Chebaiywa defense.
Chebaiywa recovered from the nervy start, with former Gor Mahia star Nicholas Kipkirui among those responsible for the improvement.
Former Gor Mahia defender Mohammed Siraj had the next chance of the match in the 10th minute when he took a strike from long range, but it was off target.
The Bankers then took the lead in the 15th minute through Kisaka whose bullet shot proved too strong for the visiting goalkeeper.
Kahiro had a chance two minutes later but he delayed to pull the trigger, allowing the defense to reorganize.
Chebaiywa had a rare chance in the 30th minute but Dennis Mochache took a shot outside the box, with his strike missing the target by a whisker.
Chebaiywa, who were having a good momentum leading into the 40th minute, missed a golden opportunity to equalize in the 43rd minute as Mochache’s strike was punched back into play by Arnold Matumele.
Kipkirui would sky the second ball that looked easier to tap in than missing.
Second Half
In their quest to chase the game, Chebaiywa introduced Fred Mungai and Apolo Gitahi for Rodgers Ogolla and Erick Barasa before restart.
The substitutions seemed to have work for the visitors as they had a positive start in the half.
A frustrated KCB coach Robert Matano responded by rested Kahiro, Etemesi and Kisaka replacing them with David Sakwa, Richard Omondi and Samuel Feargod.
Omondi had two chances in quick succession in the 68th minute but, on both occasions, Mayen Kulang pulled brilliant saves.
Feargod also had a chance in the 70th minute but shot wide even as KCB intensified their push for a second goal.
The Bankers’ search bore fruit in the 73rd minute when Omondi rose high to head home a Boniface Omondi corner.
Four minutes later, Sakwa dribbled past Kulang in the byline and passed to Boniface who was left with the simple task of tapping it into the back of the net for KCB’s third of the day.
With three goals scored, KCB lowered the tempo of the match as they went on to protect their 3-0 lead to fill time.
