Coach Anette Kavita has been in the business of teaching the game of football to girls for the last 23 years- and she is not about to slow down anytime soon.

It is a calling she naturally heeded back in 2002, after realising what the difference the God-given potential, possessed by girls in Kisatiru area, in Vihiga County, and the broader Western Region formerly known as Western Province, could make in the lives of the young ones.

She saw what many could not, even in their wildest dreams, and without the much-needed resources- save from human labour- she rolled up her sleeves and delved into a job that has long been termed as a thankless one.

Despite modest, lowly attended training sessions and other obstacles, including entrenched societal norms, she remained undeterred, guiding the young ones on the right path and serving the game of football.

With time, she says the community embraced the project, triggering a surge in attendance, as girls, driven by thirst and passion for the game, showed up to tap basics.

It was the growing enthusiasm that Kisatiru Queens, a club that has stood the test of time, was born, with records indicating that thousands of players have passed through Kavita's hands over the years.

Despite being in existence for over two decades, Kavita believes that she has barely scratched the surface, as far as unearthing talents in the area and in her pursuit of the dream to supply at least a player to the national team, Harambee Starlets.

When Mozzart Bet visited the team last week, Kavita highlighted the lack of modern sporting equipment as one of the biggest challenges in her resolve to churn out the next Starlet.

Her concern, however, found a timely solution as the gaming giants, through their initiative dubbed New Jerseys for New Champions, kitted more than 20 players present.

In addition, the gaming giant delivered two footballs as part of its commitment to uplifting grassroots clubs.

"Lack of modern sporting equipment was one of our biggest challenges, but thankfully, Mozzart Bet has solved it.

I am happy my girls will train and play matches in a dignified manner. We will no longer borrow uniforms from neighbouring teams," said Kavita during the handover ceremony held at Kisatiru Comprehensive School.

The tactician was accompanied by club chairperson Felix Kezengwa and secretary Godfrey Vusami

Meanwhile, elder Johnstone Madaga urged the players to strike a fair balance between football and their studies.

" I urge you, my daughters, to put emphasis on education just like you do in football. The two go hand-in-hand. On top of that, your discipline should not be questionable," advised Madaga, a retired teacher, who schooled at Kisatiru Primary School in the 1970s.
