Money on the table - who wants 'angry player'?

One of the most dissatisfied players in Europe’s top five leagues is close to joining his new club

Manchester City could be lining up their next blockbuster signing. Multiple Spanish outlets claim Pep Guardiola has set his sights on Real Madrid forward Rodrygo and already knows exactly what he’s willing to pay.

Reports suggest the Premier League champions are preparing an 80 million euros bid, plus bonuses, taking the total package to around 100 million euros — precisely the figure Madrid are believed to be asking, according to the Daily Mail. Guardiola is said to be a long-time admirer of the Brazilian, who has often been a thorn in City’s side during Champions League encounters.

However, the race for Rodrygo is far from a one-horse contest. Arsenal are also keen but, as Football Espana reports, their stretched transfer budget after moves for Gyokeres, Madueke, Norgaard, and Zubimendi means they could only explore a loan deal. Liverpool, under new boss Arne Slot, would join the chase only if their pursuit of Alexander Isak from Newcastle collapses.

Rodrygo’s current situation under Xabi Alonso is far from ideal. He featured for just 27 minutes in the recent Club World Cup, and toward the tail end of last season tensions flared — he reportedly declared he never wanted to play for Real Madrid again and even withdrew from the Clasico squad. Alonso kept his explanation short: "The fact that he didn't play was a game-by-game decision. We didn't rotate much, and now a new phase begins."

City’s pursuit may also hinge on another Brazilian. Savinho, signed from Troyes last year for around 35 million euros, is reportedly set for a move to Tottenham Hotspur. Should that deal go through, it would open the door for Rodrygo’s arrival. Savinho is understood to be open to the switch, while City continue talks — with Everton also in the mix due to ongoing discussions over the potential sale of James McAtee.
