Millions at stake as Gor Mahia, Tusker battle regional giants in CECAFA Kagame Cup

The two Kenyan giants secured invites to the tournament following their successful 2026-2027 campaign
FKF Premier League record champions Gor Mahia and Kenyan giants Tusker FC could walk home with millions of shillings from the released CECAFA Kagame Cup prize money.
The two Kenyan supremos are among the top regional teams that will gather in Kigali, Rwanda for the 2026 edition of the historic cup set for Friday 24 July to Friday 7 August.

Ahead of the tournament, CECAFA have released the prize money for the championship with winners set to walk home USD30,000 (approximately Ksh3.87 million) richer.
The runners up will pocket USD20,000 (approximately Ksh2.58 million) with the third placed team completing the money category with a USD10,000 (approximately Ksh1.29 million) payout.
The millions on offer will form a key basis of the struggle and scramble by the 12 East African teams ahead of the new season.
Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC will kickstart the tournament with a match against Djibouti’s Gade Republicaine FC on Friday 24 July, a match that will provide the club with an opportunity to gauge the new additions to the team.
Kenyan champions Gor Mahia, who have won the title three times will face off with APR FC of Rwanda on the same day in a match that is expected to be of high octane.
On Saturday 25 July, defending champions Singida Black Stars of Tanzania will battle South Sudanese side Jamus SC with 2025/26 FKF Premier League golden boot winner Joe Waithira is expected to feature for the latter even as Tanzanian giants Simba SC face Mogadishu City Club.
President of the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) Fabrice Sema Ngoga expressed his delight in the tournament's return to the land of a thousand hills.
“We are very excited that the tournament returns to Rwanda in 2019. We are determined to have a very successful tournament,” saidFERWAF.
