Milan's Genie Luka Modric and two wishes he's supposed to grant

According to the Rossoneri's cunning plan, the Croat should use his relationships with two potential reinforcements to persuade them to join the San Siro crew

As of May 2025, Igli Tare is AC Milan's sporting director. However, in the upcoming period, Luka Modric could take the Albanian's role - at least temporarily.

Apart from leading the team on the pitch - the Rossoneri face Pisa tonight (21.45) - as the most experienced and decorated player, the Croat could face another task - persuading his former and current teammates to join the San Siro crew.

The potential targets? His ex-Real Madrid teammate Gonzalo Garcia and Mateo Kovacic, with whom Modric has been playing for Croatia since 2013.

As for the young Spaniard, a loan move is allegedly on the table. Despite winning the Golden Boot at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, Garcia clocked only 107 minutes across eight games this season. Hence, a loan could benefit both him and Milan, given that the Rossoneri's genuine strikers, Santiago Gimenez and Christopher Nkunku, combined for only two goals in the current campaign.

On the other hand, Kovacic's eventual move to the City of Fashion could be permanent, as around €10 million is rumoured to be enough for his transfer, though Milan reportedly have competition, embodied in Aston Villa and West Ham.

The midfielder made only two appearances for Man City this season, clocking just 37 minutes in total. Truth be told, he's just recently recovered from an Achilles tendon surgery, but his status is rather questionable, especially considering the Cityzens' recent additions Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki, who both more or less play in Kovacic's position.

Given his age (31) and injury issues, his days at Etihad Stadium might be numbered, and Milan could provide him with decent shelter, just as they did in Modric's case.

Now, it's all up to the 2018 Ballon d'Or winner and his persuasive skills. Who knows - if he does a good job, he could settle the question of what he'll do once he hangs up his boots.
