In his first assignment at the club, Okoth will lead Migori away to promotion favorites Naivas FC at Kenyatta Stadium on Saturday

National Super League (NSL) side Migori Youth are set to announce former Kenyan international Sammy Okoth as their new head coach, Mozzart Sport can reveal.

Okoth is remembered for guiding Shabana FC back to the top flight after 17 years of switching between the second tier and the third tier, a feat he similarly achieved with Vihiga United in 2020 before he resigned over financial constraints.

He fills the role left by Peter Okidi last December when he severed ties with the club for FKF Division One Zone B League side Nakuru Bucks’. Migori have been under the watch of long-serving assistant coaches Kevin Olouch and Sammy Owano since Okidi’s departure.

According to Migori Team Manager David Aguko, Okoth ticked all the right boxes, having spent most of his coaching career in Kenya and the vast experience he has in the second tier.

The club administrator believes that the former Zoo FC gaffer is the right man to take Migori to the next level in their football journey.

I can confirm that we are in talks with Okoth to be our head coach going forward. He understands the club and the NSL as well, having worked with several clubs in the league. He knows the demands of the second tier and relates well with his players. We will hope to seal the deal as soon as possible since he arrived in Migori on Monday morning. Okoth is the man who will get the team promoted to the top tier,” he said.

Meanwhile, Aguko has remained adamant about the chances of Migori advancing to the top tier, noting that it is too early to rule them out since only 13 points separate them from the league leaders, Mathare United and Naivas FC.

We are still in contention for promotion, and it explains why we have gone for a top coach like him, we are tied on points with number 5 and sit 13 points behind the top. Therefore, if we get everything right, which I am sure we will, then Migori are still in the promotion battle,” he offered.

In his first assignment at the club, Okoth will lead Migori away to promotion favorites Naivas FC at Kenyatta Stadium on Saturday.
