The two countries will face off today, Tuesday, 9 September at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, from 1600 hrs.

The two teams go into the match on the back of losses in their previous matches, with Kenya facing heavy criticism for the manner in which they suffered the 3-1 loss to The Gambia.

With the Kenyan team as well as fans keen to soothe the pain with a win against Seychelles, McCarthy has identified areas Harambee Stars can use to hurt The Pirates.

“We know they like building from the back and we have set traps in the game; how we want them to play out and how we want to press them, and if we win the ball, it is down to us on what we do with it in front of goal,” McCarthy said in his pre-match press conference.

Additionally, Harambee Stars will be drawing from the pot of their height advantage over the Island country to cause aerial problems.

“We also have players like Olunga, Sylvester and Sichenje who give us the height advantage, and we created so many set-piece opportunities like corner kicks, but we were unable to create chances from them.

It is something that we want to focus a little bit more on because set pieces could be easy goal-scoring opportunities if you make the right movement, and if players put a little more effort into the craft of set pieces,” he added.

While the former Bafana Bafana striker identified set pieces as an aspect Seychelles struggled in, he called on his troops to be clinical in the match.

“We also know that it is an area Seychelles also struggle in. They concede a lot of goals on set pieces, but in the end, it is about taking chances in all fairness.”

The former AmaZulu head coach also revealed that Harambee Stars will be going all out in search of early goals in order to kill the game early enough and reduce the pressure as the match progresses.
