The two will now ply trade in FKF Division Two Western Zone A
The futures of five clubs were thrown into uncertainty following the nullification of the Football Kenya Federation Caretaker and Transition Committee 2021-2022 run league by the FKF National Executive Committee (NEC) which saw the promotion of various teams quashed.
The affected clubs were Fortune Sacco, Mayenje Santos, Aps Bomet, Dimba Patriots, and Likuyani outfit Kona Rangers.
Two seasons later, Dimba, Fortune, and the law enforcers Bomet made a return to competitive football, with the Patriots acquiring a slot in the second tier while the other two plying trade in the third tier.
Encouraged by the other three clubs, Rangers and Santos have since followed suit and thrown themselves once again on the green grass, ready to fight their way up once again as per the club chairmen.
The two embattled Western Region football heavyweights will commence yet another season in the fourth tier on Saturday, October 14th, with the sole aim of getting a hold of the two available automatic promotion spots.
In an exclusive with Mozzart Sport, Rangers patron Kent Libiso noted that the return to action for the 2021–2022 promotion play-off winners was impacted by the urge to tap and develop more talents, which is the key vision at the Musemwa-based club.
"I had a deep thought about whether to accept this painful decision or not, but after I saw the talents that were going to waste without a platform to showcase their skills, it pained me and stirred me to make a comeback. Kona will be back at the top again very soon," he offered.
Rangers have over the years produced top talents that have gone on to take the FKF Premier League by storm.
Some of the notable names to have come through the club are Kevin Amwayi (Kakamega Homeboyz), Joseph Oyugi (Nzoia Sugar), former Vihiga Bullets KCB striker David Simiyu and Homeboyz utility man Ambrose Sifuna.
Rangers and Santos will kick off their fourth-tier matches with crunch fixtures against KYSA and Eshimambo respectively.
They will jostle for the promotion slot alongside Soy United and West Kenya All Stars, with only one team assured of league elevation at the conclusion of the season.
