Brian Wekesa is now the first choice right-back at Kakamega Homeboyz

After cementing a place in the Kakamega Homeboyz first team, right back Brian Wekesa has identified earning maiden Harambee Stars call up as his next project.

Wekesa saw limited game time last season thanks to the presence of Collins Odhiambo in the team but the exit of the latter, provided him the chance to establish himself as the first choice right back.

Odhiambo who had been the preferred starter at the right side of the backline, ditched Homeboyz for twelve-time champions Tusker in the off-season transfer window.

Wekesa grabbed the chance with both hands and has since made himself the first choice right back as he has been used in all league matches and the CAF Confederation Cup assignments.

Having tasted regular game time in the league and against Libya's Al Hilal Bengahzi at the continental level, Wekesa is hoping that the national team will be his next stop.

"I aim to land my first national team call up soon. I want to capitalize on the uninterrupted playing time I am getting to make my case to the national team technical bench," said Wekesa.

The defender who can also slot in the heart of the backline expressed optimism that Stars call up would open mighty doors for him.

He said the rise of his colleague at Homeboyz Moses Shumah was a source of motivation for him as he hopes to become a regular figure in the national team and even turn professional.

"A call up comes with many blessings including moving abroad. Teams outside the country begin noticing and tracking your performance," he stated.

The 24-year old joined Homeboyz last year from Nyota FC. He played for Nzoia Sugar in 2019.
