The veteran tactician, speaking to Mozzart Sport in a post-match interview, placed full blame on FIFA-licensed centre referee Josephine Wanjiku, accusing her of making “unfair calls” that denied his charges a deserved victory.
The match itself unfolded in dramatic fashion. Gedeon Bendeka fired Homeboyz ahead inside the third minute, putting the hosts firmly in control.
However, the Bankers regrouped and returned from the halftime break with renewed purpose.
Their persistence bore fruit eight minutes into the second half when Boniface Omondi pounced with a composed finish to restore parity in the hotly contested showdown.
But the real controversy came in the dying moments.
KCB thought they had completed a remarkable comeback after Yafessi Mubiru beat goalkeeper Simon Masaka with a well-taken effort, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.
The decision triggered immediate protests from the technical bench, with Matano later insisting the officials got it wrong.
"I am not happy with the officiating. The referee needs to be fair enough. Teams work so hard during the week to earn points, not to drop them in such a manner,” Matano lamented.
“There is no way someone attacking the ball can be offside when the ball comes off an opponent. It is demoralising when you come to win matches but are denied by such refereeing.”
Despite the frustrations, the three-time Premier League–winning coach expressed satisfaction with his team’s overall display, noting significant improvement compared to recent outings.
The draw extended KCB’s unbeaten run to four matches, which includes three draws and a narrow 1–0 win over Mara Sugar FC.
The result, however, leaves the Bankers sitting 12th on the log with 12 points, seven points behind leaders Gor Mahia, who top the standings on 19 points.
"I am pleased with the performance, especially in the second half. We dominated the match and were gradually improving,” Matano added.
“Collecting six points from four matches is a plus considering our struggles earlier in the season.”
