City coach Pep Guardiola already has a number of injured players

Last season, Pep Guardiola had injury problems with his players like he probably never had before in his career. Just during last season, Manchester City players spent a combined total of over 1,100 days off the pitch, and the Spaniard could have even assembled a starting XI from players who each missed at least nine matches. On top of that, this season Pep still cannot build a team from the best players he has. Mateo Kovačić underwent Achilles tendon surgery and is expected to return at the beginning of October, Rayan Cherki has a thigh injury that will keep him out for a month and a half, and the Etihad infirmary has now added another member – Omar Marmoush.

The Egyptian striker injured his knee ligaments in a World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso and will not be in contention for the derby against Manchester United this weekend.

The first scan results carried out in Egypt indicate that Omar will not be available for the Manchester derby on Sunday. Further assessment of the injury and the start of rehabilitation are expected. Everyone at City wishes Omar a speedy recovery” the club statement said. It is still unknown how long Marmoush will be sidelined; it is not even ruled out that he might miss the beginning of the Champions League. The Citizens play Napoli at home in the first round.

Another headache for Pep: the Egyptian has already shown in a short time that he could be very useful to the team. On top of that, John Stones and Phil Foden missed the last international break due to minor injuries, while the situation is also not ideal with Abduqodir Khusanov, Joško Gvardiol, Savinho, and Rico Lewis. Once again, City is turning into a hospital at the edge of town.
