AS Maniema Union goalkeeper Detan Ogundare is confident his team can get the job done against Nairobi United in their CAF Confederation Cup clash on Sunday at the Moi Kasarani Stadium.
The two sides meet on matchday two, with Nairobi United seeking their first-ever group stage win after a 3-0 defeat to Wydad Casablanca. Maniema, meanwhile, opened their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Azam and will be aiming to maintain their perfect record.
Speaking ahead of the game, Ogundare expressed confidence in his team’s ability to secure another win. “Everyone is ready for the game. We are not scared of anything because football is unpredictable and anyone can win. We are confident that we will get the win,” he said.
Despite his team’s confidence, Ogundare praised Nairobi United, describing them as one of Kenya’s top sides. “It’s a big team, one of the best from Kenya. We have watched them play, and they are a good side,” he added.
Ogundare also reflected on Maniema’s opening win over Azam, calling it a morale booster ahead of the Kenya fixture. “Our win against Azam was a great motivation for the squad. It was a good game and gives everyone confidence heading into this match,” he said.
Nairobi United have been actively encouraging fans to attend, and a large crowd is expected at Kasarani. However, Ogundare believes the home advantage will have little impact, treating the match as essentially neutral.
“Even though they are at home, it will not affect our performance. To us, this feels like a neutral ground, so their home advantage will not change anything. It is going to be a 50/50 game,” he stated.
In Group B, Wydad Casablanca top the standings with six points, Maniema sit second with three, while Azam and Nairobi United remain without points.
