Several Kenyans were in action in the Zambian Super League on Saturday
Harambee Stars centre back Brian Mandela came off the bench to help South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns advance to the MTN8 Cup final on Saturday.
Sundowns beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in the second leg of the semifinal staged at the Lucas Moripe Stadium to book a place in the final on 3-2 aggregate, as the first leg between the two sides ended in a 1-1 draw.
Mandela was introduced six minutes to the full-time whistle to help protect the slim advantage, a job he did perfectly as Sundowns held on to punch a ticket to the final.
Mandela replaced Moroccan Abdelmounaim Boutouil, who was walking a disciplinary tightrope as he had been booked in the 48th minute.
Namibian dangerman Peter Shalulile netted a brace for Sundows, with Kaizer scoring theirs through Ashley Du Preez, who struck from the spot.
Meanwhile, a couple of Kenyan players were in action in the Zambian Super League on Saturday.
The highlight match of the day saw Dennis Ng’ang’a and David ‘Calabar’ Owino come together as Napsa Stars clashed with Zanaco at the Woodlands Stadium.
John Ochieng, who is attached to Zanaco missed the game as he was still suspended after seeing red last weekend against Mufulira Wanderers.
Owino who was thrown in the second half had the last laugh as Napsa thrashed Zananco to register the first win of the season.
Zikiru Adams, Boster Siyoma and Chania Zulu all kissed the back of the Zanaco net.
Former Gor Mahia winger Samuel Onyango and Kabwe Warriors took home three points after beating Prison Leopards 2-1 at the Railway Stadium.
Onyango started the match from the bench, as did former Tusker captain Hashim Sempala.
Landu Miete gave the Leopards the lead in the 27th minute, but Kabwe responded in the 37th and 90th minutes through Ocean Mushure and Field Kandela to win the game.
Meanwhile, Jesse Were had to content with a point after Kansanshi Dynamos played Nkwazi to a barren draw at the Edwin Imboela Stadium.
Kansanshi coach threw in Were in the 66th minute, but the former Tusker forward couldn’t get the winner for his side.
