Malawian international Chimango Kayira has sung the praises of Kenyan international Clyde Senaji, describing him as one of the best central defenders in the Malawian league.
Senaji, along with compatriot Collins Okumu, joined the Bullets in March of this year and has gone on to become a fans’ favourite with his great displays for the Malawian giants. He has once won the player of the month award.
His team is currently second in the table with 37 points, two behind leaders Chitipa United, who have played three more games than the defending champions.
Among those impressed by Senaji’s display is a former Bullets player and Malawian international, Kayira, who in a long Facebook post opined that the former AFC Leopards, Tusker FC, and Vihiga United man does not get the credit that he deserves.
"There are a number of centre backs in our elite division who are doing well and contributing a lot to their teams, but Senaji is a different fish in the pond. He is by far the most decent boy who is able to play without panic even when high-pressed by a striker. I have seen him numerous times carry the ball for a distance of about 50 metres, driving the team into attack," read his post in part.
The midfielder who now plays for Bangwe All-Stars hinted that the Kenyan utility man may not get the praise he deserves because he is a foreigner playing in the league.
"If Richard Chimbamba has clean sheets this season, it's solely because this wall has been up to task. Now, being Kenyan, this boy doesn't receive the praise he deserves here in Malawi. It's usually like that when you play in a foreign country. Let's face reality, guys: Senaji is a brilliant professional."
"We can only learn from him. As a player, you improve by being open to learning from the best, even when they are your competitors. Senaji is human and has weaknesses too, but I'm sure there's something positive he does that makes him give us that presence when watching him during local and international matches".
