Malawi grabbed an away win over Namibia to rejoin the battle in Group H. The highlight – a stunning goal from the halfway line
Richard Mbulu and Gabadinho Mhango were the heroes as Malawi earned a 2-1 victory over Namibia in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Friday afternoon at the Obert Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown, Botswana.
The Flames made a flying start, striking after only five minutes. Mbulu pounced on a poor back-pass and calmly rolled the ball into an unguarded net to give Kalisto Pasuwa’s side the lead.

Early in the second half, Malawi produced a moment of brilliance to double their advantage. Mhango, recalling his famous strike against Morocco at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, intercepted the ball deep in his own half and spotted goalkeeper Maova off his line. His audacious long-range effort sailed over the Namibian shot-stopper and into the net, a goal that could well be remembered as one of the best of the qualifiers.
Namibia managed to set up a tense finish when David Ndeunyema headed home in the 85th minute to make it 2-1, but Malawi kept their composure to secure their third win of the campaign. They now look ahead to Monday’s clash with Sao Tome at the Bingu National Stadium.

With this result, Pasuwa’s men sit fifth in Group H on nine points after seven matches, ten adrift of leaders Tunisia. For Namibia, the setback leaves them seven points behind the top spot and with plenty of work to do in their World Cup bid.
