Still, there's no official confirmation of the deal, so we'll probably have to wait for a few more hours, at least
The long-running transfer saga surrounding Benjamin Sesko appears to be nearing its conclusion, with the highly-rated Slovenian striker edging closer to a move to Newcastle United.
Sesko, one of the most sought-after young forwards in European football this summer, has reportedly chosen St James' Park as his next destination. After months of speculation, protracted negotiations and interest from several Premier League giants, Newcastle are on the brink of securing his signature - marking a major coup for Eddie Howe's ambitious project.
According to reputable Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Magpies have significantly improved their personal terms for the 21-year-old and have now received the green light from the player to proceed with formal talks with RB Leipzig over a transfer fee. The deal is expected to reach €90 million, including bonuses, which is an eye-watering figure that would make Sesko the most expensive signing in Newcastle's history.
Moreover, Slovenian media "Delo" claims that the deal between Sesko and Newcastle United should be made official and public, probably within hours.
The development comes at a time when Manchester United were also intensifying their efforts to bring Sesko to Old Trafford. However, delays in their negotiations appear to have allowed the Magpies to take the lead in the race for the striker, who has already impressed in the Bundesliga.
Sesko, who joined Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg for €24 million in 2023, has earned a reputation as a powerful, technically gifted forward with a keen eye for goal. At just 21, he represents a long-term investment and a symbol of Newcastle's ambitions to establish themselves as a force not only in the Premier League, but across Europe.
