The Barea eliminated the Harambee Stars by a 4-3 victory on post-match penalties following a 1-1 draw in both regular and extra time to book a place in the last four.

The match, which was played on Friday, 22 August at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, marked the second consecutive time that Madagascar will compete in the semi-final after a similar feat in the 2022 edition held in Algeria.

Speaking during his post-match press conference, Felix disclosed his team’s ambition as they head to the last four of the competition.

“As I said earlier, very few people - including myself - thought we could make it to the semi-finals.

But now, to be honest, we do not have a choice. We are already in the semi-finals. We have to win it,” said Felix.

To reach the final and win it, Madagascar will first have to deal with either Algeria or Sudan, who will face off later on Saturday, 23 August, in the semi-final, a task Felix notes is challenging.

“This is the last four, the top four teams, and it’s always difficult at this stage. So, we have no choice but to prepare well.

We believe that whichever team we face in the semi-finals will be just as challenging, just like in the African Championship itself. That’s the reality,” he added.

The 60-year-old tactician was also delighted with the manner in which his team reached the last four, coming second in their group and a shootout triumph in the last eight.

“It doesn't matter how you win in a tournament. The most important thing is progressing to the next stage,” he concluded.

In the other match played on Friday night, co-hosts Tanzania were also eliminated in the quarter final following a 1-0 defeat to Morocco.

The all-important goal was scored by Berkane forward Oussama Lamlioui in the 65th minute. The 29-year-old is currently the 2024 CHAN top scorer with four goals.
