The FKF Premier League week 19 wraps up today with five exciting matches, concluding three days of intense league action that began on Friday.
On Friday, Bidco United and Ulinzi Stars played a 1-1 draw in Machakos. Saturday saw Gor Mahia edge Posta Rangers 2-1 in Dandora, Homeboyz secured a 2-0 victory over Mara Sugar in Mumias, and Mathare United drew 1-1 with FC Talanta at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
This afternoon’s action promises several thrilling matchups, featuring heavyweights like AFC Leopards, Shabana, Kenya Police, Tusker, Sofapaka, and KCB all taking to the field.
Nairobi City Stars vs AFC Leopards
At Dandora Stadium, Nairobi City Stars, also known as Simba wa Nairobi, will host the AFC Leopards (Ingwe) in what both teams view as a must-win after recent setbacks.
City Stars are coming off a narrow 1-0 defeat to Bandari FC in Mombasa, while Leopards were held to a 1-1 draw by Murang'a Seal FC.
This match offers both teams a shot at redemption as they face off in Dandora.
City Stars, coached by Salim Babu, are fighting to escape the relegation playoff zone, where they sit level on 17 points with the bottom-placed Posta Rangers. They will be looking to upset Ingwe, a team they have previously beaten when least expected.
For Leopards, this is a crucial match for interim coach Fred Ambani, who is under pressure to deliver following inconsistent results.
Some fans are already calling for changes in the coaching department, and a win could ease the growing tension. Last season, the Leopards defeated the City Stars in both encounters. Kickoff is at 3 PM.
Machakos double-header
Over at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, fans will be treated to two high-stakes encounters.
Kenya Police FC vs Sofapaka FC
League leaders Kenya Police FC will take on Sofapaka FC in the early kick-off. Police are enjoying a strong run of form and will look to extend their lead at the top of the table. Sofapaka, on the other hand, is struggling after parting ways with coach Robert Matano, having lost their last two matches to Gor Mahia and Shabana FC.
A win for Police, combined with any slip from Tusker FC, could see them open a gap at the top of the standings, where they are currently tied with Tusker on 36 points but lead on goal difference. Last season, Police dominated Sofapaka with a 4-0 win in the first leg and a 1-1 draw in the return fixture. The match kicks off at 1 PM.
Tusker FC vs KCB FC
The second game will feature second-placed Tusker FC against a struggling KCB FC side. Tusker is in fine form, having won three matches in a row and nine of their last eleven. KCB, however, have been faltering after a strong start to the season, managing just one win in their last eight games. They’ll be hoping to pull off an upset, though they come into the match as underdogs.
Tusker’s top striker, Ryan Ogam, has been linked with a move to USM Alger, casting some uncertainty over his future with the club. However, Tusker will be focused on extending their winning streak. KCB won the first leg 3-2, setting the stage for an exciting rematch. Kickoff is at 4 PM.
