On two big tournaments, Enrique did nothing and it looks like a logical thing to do

The World Cup will come to the head of another unsuccessful coach. Spain failed to get past the round of 16, and that will also mean the end of Luis Enrique's term. Contract of the Red Fury's coach with the Spanish Football Association expired after the end of the World Cup, but as reported by the media from the Iberian Peninsula, Enrique will resign in the next 48 hours and complete his mandate. And that happened sooner than expected - today.

His spell on the Spain bench will not be something fans will fondly remember. At the European Championship in England last year, The Spaniards were stopped in the semi-finals, where they were eliminated on penalties by Italy, and now in Qatar they lost again from the penalty spot, only this time two steps earlier than Morocco.

The World Cup started brilliantly for the Spain, they demolished Costa Rica 7:0, but after that nothing went right. They drew with Germany, only to lose to Japan, which, however, gave them a favorable draw, as it seemed, as they went to Morocco. But football's ways are strange...

“The sports management of the RFEF has transferred to the president a report in which it is determined that a new project should start for the Spanish Soccer Team, with the aim of continuing with the growth achieved in recent years thanks to the work carried out by Luis Enrique and their collaborators. Luis Enrique qualified for two Final Four of the UEFA Nations League, of the three he played as coach; and he reached the semifinals of Euro 2020 with his own stamp and through a defined style. He opted for young talent and has sown hope for the future of the Spanish team. The RFEF energetically wishes Luis Enrique and his team the best of luck in their future professional projects. The coach earns the love and admiration of his collaborators in the national team and of the entire Federation, which will always be his home" reads the statement.

As the Spaniards write, Luis De la Fuente, the current strategist of the under-23 national team, has the best chance of becoming the new coach of the Red Fury. He won European titles leading the 19-year-old generation in 2015, and then took the crown in the under-21 competition with the same selection two years later. Then De la Fuente led the Spanish Olympic team in Tokyo, which lost to Brazil in the final. His only flaw is inexperience at the highest level. Other candidate could be Marcelino, who is available after leaving Athletic Bilbao at the end of last season, because a new president came in. It is also expected that some team members, like Jordi Alba and Busquets will retire from the national squad.
