Lousy Chelsea go 1-0 up before losing at St Mary's

Reading Time: 2min | Wed. 31.08.22. | 00:25

Sterling put the visitors in front, but the Saints come from behind to top the deplorable Blues

Only a single victory in the ultimate four games speaks for itself regarding contemporary Chelsea form.

Thomas Tuchel's boys seem deprived, clueless and as if they were forced to play on Tuesday night at Southampton. That sort of attitude led the Blues to a deserved 2-1 loss to St Mary's outfit, albeit the visitors were the ones to break the deadlock.

The one to "blame" for it is Raheem Sterling, the only Chelsea player that seems to be thriving in the recently-started EPL season. The former Manchester City forward has scored his third goal of the current campaign, reacting smoothly in the rivals' box with 67 minutes left on the clock.

At that moment, not many would predict the Blues' ship would go down so fast and so quickly. The tables turned even before the half-time whistle as an unmarked Romeo Lavia hit a perfect equaliser in the 28th minute. Although his shot was superb, the shameful reaction of Chelsea's defence made Lavia's job much easier. The game's momentum changed instantly, with the hosts smelling the opportunity to grab all three points.

It eventually happened with Armstrong's winner in the first-half stoppage time, which sucked out all the energy from lousy favourites.
