Good build up against Muhorni bore the match-winning goal for Tusker last weekend

Tusker head coach Robert Matano has for long been criticized for his affinity for power play, directness and long balls, a style of play which is considered unattractive in this day and age.

Much as the experienced gaffer has been condemned for sticking to his philosophy at a time when football continues to hit new high in terms of style of play, it is fair to note that he has been successful in as far as winning titles is concerned.

They say it is only a fool who doesn't change his mind and Matano understands this well as the 2021-2022 coach of the year award winner wants his charges to stick to modern football going forward.

This was demonstrated in their last league duel against Muhoroni Youth where a superb build up and runs bore the match-winning goal in the second half.

Versatile midfielder David Odoyo connected a cut back from Shaphan Siwa to win the game for the brewers, who were coming off a 2-1 defeat in the hands of Kakamega Homeboyz.

That was not the isolated case of Tusker building from the back as the club has been fairly attempting to play like that from the time Brian Bwire established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper.

Matano wants his charges to keep the fire burning.

"I want them to continue that because football is all about build up, attacking and composure. We have to make it natural and our style of play," said Matano.

The league winning tactician, meanwhile, spared a moment and hailed the new players who debuted in the game against Muhoroni.

Right back Collins Odhiambo and defensive midfielder Chris Erambo earned their Tusker debuts in the game with the former clocking full time while the latter was withdrawn later in second half aftrt picking an injury.

Matano was simply amazed with what the two offered in the game especially Erambo who was also debuting in the top level having joined the club from Mombasa Elite.

"He played well considering that he came from the lower division. He showed the character and composure. I am happy for him. Odhiambo also played well," added Matano.
