Liverpool's never-ending struggle: Jota has to take a break again
Reading Time: 3min | Tue. 23.04.24. | 18:40
The Portuguese will have to undergo a two-week recovery, during which he will miss three games
Just as he returned to the field, Diogo Jota will have to take another break. Jurgen Klopp confirmed that the Portuguese forward will be absent for the next two weeks due to a minor hip problem at today's conference.
Jota joined the Liverpool squad less than two weeks ago after missing nearly two months with a knee problem, but he complained of hip pain after the weekend's game against Fulham.
The former Wolverhampton footballer has been coming off the bench for three consecutive games since his return, in order to find himself in the starting line-up against Fulham, came up and scored a goal, but had to leave the field just two minutes later. Allegedly, the 27-year-old striker was injured in the exact moments when he shook the net...
"Diogo scored a goal, he felt a little something, and now we found out that it's a little more serious, so he will be out for two weeks. Before the visit to Atalanta, he got a kick, an ordinary duel, but then he felt a slight pain in his hip. Then it was fine, because he didn't start that game, we put him in later, everything was fine. Then he started the last game, he was fine, and then at the goal...", said Klopp at the conference before tomorrow's derby with Everton on Goodison.
If Klopp's prediction is correct and Jota has to be out for two weeks, it means he will miss three of Liverpool's five remaining games until the end of the season. Tomorrow's visit to Everton, then a trip to London and a match with West Ham, as well as a derby with Tottenham at Anfield.
"It's a small thing, but we're at the end of the season so it's not a great time for any injury... When I say two weeks, it's actually almost nothing, but enough that he won't be at our disposal," added Klopp.
He then referred to the rotations he made for the previous game with Fulham, i.e. the decision to leave Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis McAllister on the bench...
"We had to do that and we'll see what we can do for the next game because it's just around the corner and then there's the away game against West Ham. Nothing is definite yet. We'll have the only proper training session this afternoon and then we'll make decisions. We'll make selection and we hope that we will again have a lot of fresh players on the field," said Klopp.

Liverpool are level on points with Arsenal, but the Reds sit in second position due to the lower goal difference. Manchester City are third, with the fact that they still need to play a left-over match against Brighton.
