Liverpool's Konate hopes UCL draw will reunite him with his birthplace

Football champagne is what awaits us around the corner as Paris Saint-Germain are on the verge of qualification for the Champions League last 16. Their 3-0 away win in the first leg against Brest mean that Les Parisiens are a step away from the battle with either Liverpool or Barcelona in the next round.

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate, who was born in Paris, admitted that he hopes to play against the side from the French capital, which would mark a reunion with his hometown.

"It would be fantastic for me personally because I come from there, my parents and family live there, all my friends are there. I grew up with people in Paris, and when it was Leipzig-PSG, they supported PSG instead of supporting me, even though I grew up with them," Konate told Telefoot.

In the meantime, there have even been rumours and reports about Konate's possible move to Parc des Princes in recent weeks. He's got a contract with the Reds that runs until June 2026.

"To hear big clubs like that are showing interest in me is very flattering," said Konate in the same interview when asked about PSG and Real Madrid, who are also allegedly interested. "Now, I'm focussing on this season, giving it my all and I'll let my agents take care of the rest."
