Bullets started the season on the wrong footing getting a 5-1 annihilation at Gusii FC.

Vihiga Bullets head coach George Lio Owoko believes his team will improve as the season progresses and suggests they will mount a significant promotion hunt.

Bullets started the season on the wrong foot, getting a 5-1 annihilation at the merciless Gusii FC in their first game since relegation from top-flight football.

In what was a second debut on the dugout for Lio, as he made a return from FKF Division One outfit MOFA, things turned ugly as they found themselves three goals down within thirty minutes of play.

In an interview with Mozzart Sport, the experienced gaffer called for calm from the club's faithful, attributing the heavy defeat to a lack of proper preparations prior to the match.

The former Balaji EPZ expert also noted that his team needed time to gel before results could be milked out of the youthful squad.

"The best is yet to come. We assembled a young squad in preseason that has not trained together for long. We hit the camp four days before match day, and that affected our preparations. There is a lot of work to be done, and we will get better with more work and matches," stated Ooko.

"We have a group of talented players carefully assembled, but I am not a magician to get the results out of them instantly; immediately they learn and master my tactics, then opponents should be worried," he added.

The tactician also heaped praise on coach Kassim Junior and Gusii for the football they displayed, noting that they deserved the three points as the Omugusii club was the best team in the match.

"It was not our day, Gusii were well prepared, and they made chances count, something we could not do as Bullets. Furthermore, the match officials of the day understand the assignment perfectly. More of this professionalism should be encouraged in our leagues," he offered.

The gaffer is banking on the ex-Gor Mahia trio of Gilbert Otieno, Boniface Odhiambo and Austin Mugatsia Adamba as well as former Kariobangi Sharks man Brian Odhiambo to help the Bullets turn around the results.

Next for the Vihiga stationed club is a home clash against the Idd Shikanda coached Dimba Patriots at Mumias Sports Complex next weekend.
