Lautaro continues scoring streak as Inter win easily in Cagliari

Reading Time: 2min | Mon. 28.08.23. | 23:47

Inter Milan won the game 2-0

With clear aspiration for winning Serie A this time around, Inter Milan started the new season with an unconvincing 2-0 win against Monza. A win is a win, but it was not as breathtaking as many fans expected. And tonight it looked better in Cagliari, as Nerazurri took an early lead and just didn’t allow the guests to do anything to make this game uncertain. They didn’t have such a hard task anyway, as the hosts are the main candidates to go down, even with the experienced coach Claudio Ranieri at the helm. The newly formed striking duo Lautaro Martinez – Marcus Thuram is working well together. Inter’s new captain scored his third goal in two matches, while former Borussia Monchengladbach forward assisted with Inter’s first goal.

The first chance of the game came after 15 minutes, when Lautaro Martinez hit the post, and six minutes later, the guests were up 1-0. Marcus Thuram struggled to get into the game against Monza but he's done fantastically tonight. He held up the ball before sliding it to Dumfries who produced a tidy finish across Radunovic's goal. Maybe this game would take a different path if Cagilari levelled minutes later, as Ibrahim Sulemana’s free-kick found Nandez, but the shot was saved by Sommer. Even thou it was only half an hour to the game, basically it was over. Dimarco played a 1-2 with Thuram before haring down the wing and finding Martinez in the box, and Inter’s striker didn’t miss from there. Old ‘fox’ Claudio Ranieri tried everything, even changed the formation three times in the first half (3-4-3 to 4-3-2-1 to 4-4-2) but this time is just not good enough and will struggle to survive in Serie A. Inter had only one decent chance in the second half, but Chalkanoglu’s shot ended up straight to the post. Apart from that, Inter did nothing, but against this Cagliari, it was more than enough.
