Late own goal saves Inter's skin in City of Love
Reading Time: 4min | Sun. 02.11.25. | 16:47
Hellas Verona defender Martin Frese scored a 94th-minute own goal for the Nerazzurri's triumph and deprived his team of a well-deserved point - 2-1
Inter Milan survived their trip to the City of Love! The Nerazzurri were on the verge of dropping points in Verona, as the home team had a point in its pocket until the 94th minute, when its defender, Martin Frese, scored a clumsy own goal, which won the game for Inter - 2-1.
Up until that moment, Verona were at times a better rival than the giants, while their forward Giovane seriously tormented the visitors' defence. The Brazilian's 40th-minute leveller cancelled out Piotr Zielinski's early opener and gave the Gialloblu hope that they could avoid defeat.

Still, one moment of misfortune in the final minutes of the clash, and all their hopes were crushed. Truth be told, a situation from the 67th minute has to be mentioned, as the ref Daniele Doveri and the VAR room seem to have spared Inter's Yann Bisseck a direct red card.
Following this triumph, the Nerazzurri are now fully back in the title race, as they are tied with Roma in the second spot, just one point behind the leaders Napoli.

Aware that the role of favourites stood by their name, the Nerazzurri embraced the "burden" and took control of the match from the first referee's whistle.
Seven minutes into the game, Lautaro Martinez managed to lob Verona's keeper Lorenzo Montipo, but the centre-back Victor Nelsson deprived him of an early opener with a goal-line clearance. However, nine minutes later, the home team was helpless.
Hakan Calhanoglu took a corner kick, found Piotr Zielinski at the edge of the box, and the Pole unleashed a first-touch missile on the volley, breaking the deadlock with a banger.
Inspired by the early opener, Inter had another decent chance through Alessandro Bastoni, but as the break approached, Cristian Chivu's men seemed more and more complacent, and Verona took advantage of it.
Five minutes before the break, from their first shot on target, the Gialoblu levelled over the Brazilian Giovane, who blew past Bastoni and scored a screamer, finding the top-right corner of Yann Sommer's goal.
Verona could have even completed a comeback seconds before the break, but Gift Orban hit the post after managing to shoot from close range skilfully.

Even after the break, the visitors seemed shaken by the rivals' unexpected equalizer, so Chivu reacted just ten minutes into the second half, subbing on Denzel Dumfries, Nicolo Barella, and Francesco Pio Esposito. Still, the "bench crew" failed to bring instant improvement, while the ref Daniele Doveri and the VAR room seem to have turned a blind eye on Yann Bisseck's (Inter's last defender) foul, sparing the German a rather clear red card in the 67th minute.

Federico Dimarco, Nicolo Barella, and Davide Frattesi's efforts were the only notable things the visitors managed to do until the end of the match. However, after the Nerazzurri failed to score the winner, Verona's centre-back Martin Frese managed to bring three points to Inter, netting an own goal in the 94th minute!
Thanks to the Dane, the Milan side is now tied with Roma in the second Serie A spot, though the Giallorossi have yet to play their game against AC Milan tonight (22.45). On the other hand, Verona are still in the relegation zone, though the way they suffered the defeat will hurt them much more than the loss itself.
