Kibwage is one of the marquee additions at K'Ogalo ahead of the new season, having been signed in the middle of Kenya's 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) campaign.
The former KCB FC captain opted against renewing his contract with the Brewers, which had expired; instead, he jumped ship to the 21-time league champions.
The Kenya international, while speaking to Gor Mahia TV, revealed why he opted for K'Ogalo, a decision he admits was difficult to make.
"It was not an easy decision, but I had to be bold enough and make it because, even career-wise, growth had to happen and coming here (Gor Mahia) is another step.
I needed a new environment and in a team with the same calibre as my former team (Tusker FC) or even higher ambitions,” said Kibwage.
Unlike at Tusker FC, Kibwage will be playing in front of a huge multitude of fans at K'Ogalo, who always demand nothing short of a win, a matter that he says appealed to him.
“That was the most exciting thing to me. I felt that I should be playing under pressure. I knew that the more I played in front of fans, the more pressure I had to impress them.
Playing under pressure and with the fans at club level helps one to adapt faster and get used to the national team experience and on the international stage,” he remarked.
The former AFC Leopards defender went ahead to state the further importance of the constant pressure at K'Ogalo.
“The pressure will help me to maintain a high level of performance and my position in the national team.”
The 27-year-old was one of the standout performers for Kenya, standing tall at the heart of Harambee Stars' defense, a performance he hopes to build on.
“Performing well at CHAN and the chance I got is enough motivation coming into the league because I am more confident, and the fans expect the same.”
