Uganda Cranes midfielder Allan Okello has opted against engaging in speculation over his future following their exit from the CHAN tournament, insisting that his focus remains on his current club, Vipers SC.

Okello was one of Uganda’s standout performers at the tournament, scoring twice before the Cranes exited.

Just their co-hosts, Kenya and Tanzania, Cranes were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Senegal, going down 1-0 in Kampala on Saturday evening.

Madagascar, Morocco, and Sudan joined the defending champions in the last four of the competition.

The youngster’s future has sparked interest in Kenya, with AFC Leopards confirming they are keen on acquiring his services, while Gor Mahia is also rumored to be monitoring the former KCCA FC star.

On Monday, Gor Mahia patron Eliud Owalo and chairman Ambrose Rachier traveled to Uganda, fueling speculation that they were there to conduct transfer business, with Okello among the potential targets

On Monday, Okello was asked about a potential move to the Kenyan Premier League but declined to comment, emphasizing his happiness at Vipers and his excitement about the upcoming season.

“I would not comment on that. For me, as a player, I am really happy where I am today and I am looking forward to joining my teammates ahead of the new season,” he said.

The 22-year-old, however, revealed that he still dreams of playing international football outside Uganda, having previously been with Paradou Athletic Club in Algeria from 2020 to 2023.

“But whatever comes, you never know. I also have my dream to play international football and to play outside Uganda,” he added.

Okello also reflected on Uganda’s CHAN performance, praising the co-hosts for making it to the quarterfinals.

We did well as a region because no one expected us to get out of the group stages. I would say we achieved one goal, and next time we will aim for an even bigger one,” he said.
