Kenya hosted Seychelles at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on Tuesday, 9 September and emerged with a 5-0 victory.

Ryan Ogam and captain Michael Olunga, who were partnered together upfront for the first time, both grabbed a brace while defender Collins Sichenje scored the other goal to ensure that fans left with smiles on their faces.

Mozzart Sport caught up with a few of the fans during and after the match and sampled their reactions in this article.

“It was a routine win. There was never going to be any other result. Nevertheless, I liked the performance and professionalism of the team despite us facing a fairly weak side.

It was the perfect opportunity to try out different formations and different players without worrying about failure.

It was also a good win for the fans after such a disappointing performance and defeat to The Gambia in the last match,” said Martin Rutere.

His sentiments were echoed by Freelance Sports journalist Dollar S.M, who also went further to speak to us from the mixed zone, sharing his expectations of the team going forward.

“It was always a matter of how many and not if we would win. Happy though for the scoreline and the players who got the chance to impress.

Duke Abuya is my man of the match. He controlled the midfield well and was involved in almost all the attacks by Kenya. I was definitely also impressed with Ryan Ogam, who is steadily growing into the national team and scored a brace.

He is proving to be a reliable striker for the national team, and with his young age, he will be of service to the nation for a long time.

Going forward, McCarthy must use the time between now and AFCON to build a formidable team that will be able to compete against the African giants,” he stated.

As for Nasteha Adan, she was impressed by Harambee Stars' attacking duo even as she awaits the return of her favourite player.

“I have really enjoyed Kenya's display today after nursing a heartbreak from our last match (against The Gambia).

I think we played well, and I'm happy for Ogam, who is coming up well for the national team, and for Olunga, who redeemed himself with two goals.

Hopefully, Bajaber (Mohamed) will be fit to play in our next assignments and add more joy to this team,” she remarked.

Emmanuel Otieno, on his part, was pleased with the display of the locally based players, who fans have been asking to be given more playing time as well as the newfound partnership upfront.

“At least coach Benni McCarthy heard our cry from the last match and increased the number of locals in the team, and added international players who work for the team.

Alpha Onyango controlled the midfield, Manzur was good as an inverted left back, while Lenkupae (William) and Job Ochieng were also impressive on the flanks.

Most importantly, though, for me, was the fact that we started with two strikers, and I believe we will be more dangerous going into the future if we partner Ogam and Olunga.”

Shabana FC fan Sandra Kemuma chose to focus on the fans and how they can help in growing local football.

“I am impressed by the turnout of the fans for a mid-week clash. I like the fact that Kenyans have begun to embrace our local football and the national team, for that matter.

It is up to the team to now reward this gesture by posting good results. I hope even half of the crowd can show up for league matches,” she said.

Despite the result, Peter Kibet was not a happy man as Kenya played with a lowly ranked team by FIFA.

“Honestly, there is nothing to smile about. This was a dead rubber match against one of the weakest teams in Africa, which does not warrant much celebration.

I'm still angry that we failed to take our chances and capitalise on home advantage, yet we were drawn in a fairly easy group.

We ought to have beaten teams like The Gambia, Cameroon or Ivory Coast to celebrate, but we were so poor. We must now build a team that is capable of competing against the best in Africa,” he remarked.

Harambee Stars will be away to Burundi in the next match scheduled for Wednesday, 8 October, before facing Ivory Coast two days later.
