The 21-year-old gets an opportunity to rebuild his career after almost a year without a club

Kenyan forward Wilkims Ochieng has signed with Belgian side Royal Francs Borains after staying for close to a year as a free agent.

The 21-year-old, who last played a professional match with Slovenian club FC Koper in April 2023 before being formally released in July, was unveiled by the Challenger Pro League club on Monday, and will be under contract throughout the entire 2024-2025 season.

“The RFB gives me the chance to return to the high level,” Ochieng told the team media after his signing. “I will give my all and do everything for the club which gives me this chance to be able to show my qualities.”

Ochieng, who holds dual Belgian and Kenyan nationality, was born in Kenya and moved to Belgium at the age of eight.

After Havré and Saint-Symphorien, he moved to Mouscron then to Bruges, where he distinguished himself in the Youth League (12 matches) and in D1B (15 matches).

He then moved to FC Koper, playing in the Slovenian Division One, and now moves back to Belgium.

“I already feel good in this welcoming group,” Ochieng said. “When I arrived in Belgium, we settled in Havre, where I started playing football. I now live in Saint-Ghislain, a few minutes from the stadium. Finding the high level in your region is an opportunity.”

Ochieng earned his maiden call-up to the Kenyan national team in November 2021 for Harambee Stars’ 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Uganda and Rwanda, and was recently included in Engin Firat’s squad for Kenya’s friendly with Iran in March 2023.
