Ararat dropped to third in the log after the defeat.

Amos Nondi returned to the match-day squad on Tuesday evening as his club, FC Ararat-Armenia, suffered a 2-1 defeat at home against Urartu.

Nondi missed last weekend’s derby against Armenia through suspension, and on Tuesday he returned to the starting lineup for 57 minutes before he was taken off.

Adriano Duarte Castanheira gave the hosts an 11th-minute lead before Urartu turned things around through goals from Zhirayr Margaryan and Nikolai Aleksandrovich Prudnikov.

The result resulted in Urartu leapfrogging Ararat to the second position in the log. Another Kenyan in the team, Alwyn Tera, was an unused substitute in the game.

In England, Clarke Oduor was not included in the matchday squad as his club, Tranmere Rovers, went on to lose 2-1 to Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday night.

Rovers took the lead in the first half through Regan Hendry, and despite Andy Cook pulling City level and Harry Lewis keeping them alive with a penalty save, a late Kieron Morris winner saw all three points stay in Birkenhead.

Coach Mark Hughes was left disappointed with the outcome, with his team now 18th in the log with just 13 points after 11 rounds of league matches.

“We are disappointed. The performance in the first half was very good. We should have probably scored two goals before Tranmere scored, but unfortunately we were not able to convert some really good moments,” he told the club’s website.

“Mistakes can happen. Their goal was very much against the run of play at that point. We have allowed them to score right at the end and give them that momentum in the final moments of the game”.

He, however, sees positives in the game. He believes they put in a good shift in the first half.

"They got one chance at the end of the game and were able to take it. It was not meant to be for us. I think there are positives we can take from the game. The first-half performance was good, and obviously Cooky’s goal is positive.

“For the most part, the performance was decent; we just did not take our chances. We have not ended up getting anything out of the game. I think a point would probably have been fair.”

Bradford hosts Swindon Town on Saturday.
