Kenyan duo land first trophy barely weeks after joining South African club

The striker came on in the last five minutes to see out a win that saw his side gain regional supremacy ahead of the new PSL season
Harambee Stars striker Moses Shumah won his first piece of silverware at South African club AmaZulu, after helping them clinch the 2026 KZN Premier's Cup at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban on Sunday, 26 July.

Shumah, who joined Usuthu earlier this month, played the last five minutes of the final as AmaZulu beat Milford FC 2-0, to officially get his stay in South Africa off to the best of starts.
The former Kakamega Homeboyz man, who last season played in Zambia for league champions Power Dynamos, replaced Langelihle Mhlongo in the 85th minute, to aid his new side to a crown that lifted their status in their home province of KwaZulu-Natal.
While Shumah came in the second half, his counterpart Jackson Imbiakha started the match while wearing AmaZulu colours.
The inclusion of the immediate former Murang'a Seal and Rising Stars defender could be a sign that he is set to play for the South African side in the new season.
The young defender lasted on the pitch for 75 minutes.
The KZN Premier’s Cup, which was founded in 2011, has been a common pre-season tournament for AmaZulu, who are among the top clubs invited by the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government to participate.
On its website, the Provincial Government label the cup as one aimed at supporting football development, strengthening partnerships with professional clubs, and encouraging supporters to return to stadiums ahead of the new football season.
This year, AmaZulu, played just one match on their way to the final, needing only to beat lower-tier side Midlands Wanderers 2-0 at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Saturday, 25 July.
On Sunday, the Premiership club was presented with a clash against Milford, who beat Richards Bay 2-1 in their semifinal.
In front of a sizeable crowd, it only took 11 minutes for AmaZulu to take the lead in the final, when Sandile Mthethwa scored a header after being teed up by new-season signing Kgomotjo Lekoloane.
Lekoloane would then turn goalscorer the 43rd minute, when he doubled Usuthu’s lead just before the break, with a first goal for the club.
In the 6th minute, AmaZulu were presented with an opportunity to add a third, only for Tebogo Mashigo to miss from the spot, this after he had been brought down inside the box.
Milford would however, not capitalise on the slip-up, as they ended us runners-up, AmaZulu emerging as regional winners, and setting themselves up for what they hope will be a successful Premiership season.
AmaZulu, who gave Shumah his debut during a Prince Mangosuthu (PM) Legacy Cup semifinal defeat to Ulundi on 18 July, begin their South African Premiership campaign on Saturday, 1 August, when they travel away to Stellenbosch FC.
