So impressive was Harper's performance that he won the Man of the Match award despite his side suffering defeat

Kenyan defender Vincent Harper bagged the Man of the Match award despite his Eastleigh side suffering a 2-1 defeat at the hands of FC Halifax while his compatriot Wilson Waweru started in Galway United's 2-0 win in Ireland.

Vincent Harper

The 21-year-old defender was trusted with another start in the left back role as his Eastleigh side made it six games without enjoying victory in the English National League against FC Halifax.

Since making the move to Eastleigh at the start of the season from Chippenham FC where he barely lasted a month, Harper has been an integral part of the National League side.

After both sides struggled to break each other's set of defences, Halifax had a late flurry to the opening half as they drew first blood in the 39th minute when Kian Spence fired them ahead.

With wind in their sails, Halifax did not take long to double their lead as they did so four minutes later through Matthew Warburton to head into the half time break with a commanding 2-0 lead.

Eastleigh were quickly off the blocks in the second half as the pulled one back four minutes after the restart through Harry Pritchard who tapped home Sam Smart's low cross.

Harper who was lively in the clash was handed the Man of the Match award after the game despite no being involved in a goal or his side winning.

Wilson Waweru

The Kenyan midfielder started for Galway United in the 2-0 defeat against a 10-man Longford in the Irish Division One.

After a muted first half performance from both teams, Galway finally broke the deadlock five minutes after the interval through David Hurley who converted his spot-kick.

Waweru was withdrawn in the 70th minute and on came Ronan Manning with Maxwell Hemmings doubling their advantage two minutes later.

Dean McMenamy was handed his marching orders in the 83rd minute for a second bookable offense in a span of our minutes as Galway registered the 2-0 win.
