Fresh from an emphatic 16-0 demolition of Sudan in their opener, the Kenyan side under head coach Mildred Cheche carried their momentum into the encounter, running ruthlessly from the outset.
Somalia, who were still recovering from a 4-0 defeat to Tanzania, entered the fixture hoping to salvage their first points of the tournament but were quickly overwhelmed by Kenya’s intensity and pace.
Kenya broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when Faith Boke reacted sharply to a well-delivered ball from Emily Odhiambo, calmly slotting home to give the Starlets an early advantage.
The breakthrough opened the floodgates almost immediately, as Brenda Achieng doubled the lead just two minutes later, continuing her rich scoring form after netting seven in the opening match.
The pressure never eased on the Somali defence. Midway through the half, Beryl Okumu extended Kenya’s lead after latching onto a precise pass from Grace Mumo, finishing confidently to make it 3-0.
Okumu then struck again shortly after, completing her brace and putting Kenya firmly in control before the break with a comfortable four-goal cushion.
Despite Somalia’s attempts to reorganise and push forward in search of a response, Kenya’s backline remained composed and disciplined, ensuring the opposition offered little threat going into halftime.
The second half resumed in a similar fashion, with Kenya dictating possession and territory.
Substitute Elizabeth Alizeba made an immediate impact, firing in Kenya’s fifth from the edge of the box to further extend the lead.
She came close to a second moments later, only to be denied by the upright after connecting with another precise delivery from Odhiambo.
As the match neared its conclusion, Kenya continued to press relentlessly.
Their dominance was rewarded in the 86th minute when substitute Patience Waithira added the sixth goal, putting the finishing touch on a one-sided contest.
The result sees Kenya top Group A with six points and an astonishing goal difference of 22 goals, heading into their final group match against hosts Tanzania, who sit second in the standings.
