Makati was the hero on Saturday, scoring the all-important goal in the 72nd minute as KCB secured a 1-0 victory over Mara Sugar FC in an FKF Premier League match played at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Apart from the goal, the midfielder had a decent game, anchoring the midfield and preventing attacks while also taking shots on the rare occasions he ventured forward.

Speaking after the match, Makati revealed Matano’s hand in preparation for the goal.

“It is something I have been working on with the coach (Matano), encouraging me to keep shooting while bending, and I am glad it finally paid off,” said Makati.

The former Vapour Sports midfielder, who joined the Bankers at the start of the season from Nairobi City Stars, also took time to shed light on the difference between the two clubs.

“They are two different teams with different demands, and I feel like KCB has greater demands and therefore as a player, you just have to keep pushing yourself and putting in more effort,” he added.

The win over Mara Sugar FC eventually ended KCB’s three-match winless streak, with the victory coming with the added bonus of a clean sheet.

“It is great that we finally got back to winning ways. We had a lot of pressure both in training and matches, and we just hope and will push to ensure that we do not slip again.”

KCB are now eighth on the log with 37 points, 19 shy of league leaders Gor Mahia, a testament to the challenging season they are enduring, with pressure mounting on coach Robert Matano to change the tide.

Next up for KCB is a clash against relegation-threatened Bidco United on Sunday, 5 April, where they will have a chance to build on their last win.
