Davies set to return, Kompany optimistic star striker will be fit for Champions League showdown

Harry Kane will miss FC Bayern Munich's Bundesliga clash with SC Freiburg this weekend, but head coach Vincent Kompany remains hopeful the striker will be fit in time to face Real Madrid.

Kane picked up a minor ankle issue while on international duty with England and has been ruled out of Saturday's match.

"He trained well until Sunday, then felt his ankle with the national team," Kompany explained. "That affects tomorrow and he won't be available. But I'm positive about Tuesday."

The timing is far from ideal. The former Tottenham striker has been Bayern's standout performer this season, scoring 31 Bundesliga goals in just 26 appearances, plus 10 in the UEFA Champions League.

There was, however, more encouraging news elsewhere. Alphonso Davies is set to return after recovering from a hamstring injury, while Jamal Musiala is also back in contention following ankle discomfort.

"Both are options," Kompany said. "Whether they can handle three games in a week or a full 90 minutes is another question, but we need results now."

Bayern's injury list is also easing further, with Aleksandar Pavlovic back in full training, while goalkeepers Manuel Neuer and Jonas Urbig are included in the squad despite recent injury concerns.

With the decisive stretch of the season underway, Bayern may not be at full strength, but, as Kompany made clear, they no longer have the luxury of waiting.
