Release clauses and Bayern Munich - a hot topic for several weeks now.

It’s an open secret that two of Bayern’s three most important players have the option to “exit” their contracts early if another club pays a fixed buyout fee: Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane. However, the situation isn’t nearly as simple as it might seem at first glance.

Amid all the speculation, Bild has spent the past few days investigating the issue and has come up with some confirmations. Yes, it’s true that both Kane and Musiala have release clauses - but no one will find it easy to trigger them. For example, Musiala’s clause is set at 175 million euros, but it comes with a not-so-trivial footnote: any potential suitor must not only pay Bayern’s compensation but also at least match his current salary, which became astronomical after he signed his new deal. His fixed annual wage is 18.87 million, and with bonuses, he can earn an additional 6.6 million - a total of 25.47 million euros gross per year.

To put it in perspective, if a club wanted to sign Musiala next June, including the standard signing bonus and a five-year deal, the total cost of the transfer package would exceed 300 million - a crazy figure that only three or four clubs on the planet could afford. That said, when Musiala enters the final year of his contract with Bayern, his release clause will drop to a more “manageable” 100 million. Still, it raises the question: who would pay that much for a player who, in theory, could be available on a free transfer 10-12 months later?

Bild also confirms that Harry Kane will be able to leave next May if a club pays 65 million euros to Bayern. Given his current form, that amount sounds like a bargain. However, Kane is known as a very grounded and family-oriented person who dislikes moving around. As things stand, he can easily imagine finishing his career in Munich — something that greatly reassures the club’s hierarchy. Especially after his wife Kate’s recent statement:

The way we’ve been welcomed here in Germany is incredible. I never expected anything like this. I can imagine us staying here forever”. Despite those comments, Bayern are reportedly planning to start new contract talks with Kane soon — this time without a release clause.

Meanwhile, Michael Olise has turned out to be a superb signing. He’s now one of Vincent Kompany’s key players, so reports of a 90 million release clause caused quite a stir. Max Eberl recently went before the press to deny that story. What is new, however, is that Bayern will have to pay an extra six million euros in bonuses to Crystal Palace, on top of the initial 53 million transfer fee. Olise also received 10 million as a signing bonus when he joined. Bild also revealed that Kim Min-jae has a release clause in his contract — currently 100 million, dropping to 70 million in May of 2026. That’s noteworthy because Bayern were reportedly willing to sell him this past summer for far less, but no deal materialized.

The German outlet also obtained details from Luis Díaz’s contract: the Colombian has performance bonuses for goals and assists, payments for every start, and an additional 250,000 if he finishes as the top scorer in either the Bundesliga or the Champions League. There’s also a nice reward for Vincent Kompany — a one million euros bonus if he wins the Champions League.

As for future reinforcements, Bild reports that Bayern are eyeing new defensive options for next June. A deal with Crystal Palace for Marc Guehi was nearly done earlier this year — the club was waiting for Kim to find a new destination, but when that fell through, Liverpool jumped in and took the lead. Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund has reportedly stayed in contact with Oliver Glasner, while Bayern are increasingly turning their attention to Nico Schlotterbeck of Borussia Dortmund. The German international recently rejected Dortmund’s latest contract extension offer (his current deal expires in 2027, while Guehi’s runs until 2026). Dortmund, however, will not give up easily — Schlotterbeck is said to demand 10 million per year and a “reasonable” release clause. As a third option, Bayern are also monitoring Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool, whose contract expires in just eight months…
