The Turin giant are playing with injury ravaged Sassuolo
Juventus FC now have a clear path toward securing a place in the UEFA Champions League. US Sassuolo Calcio have been hit in recent days by an outbreak of whooping cough. At least six players showed symptoms as of yesterday and were placed in isolation. The situation is so serious that it won’t be known until the last minute who will be able to take the field in Turin. Therefore, Juve will have a relatively easy task against a depleted Sassuolo side. On top of that, after four months, the name of Dušan Vlahović will appear again on the match sheet. The Serbian striker will most likely get a chance in the second half.
While Sassuolo are struggling to field even 11 players, Luciano Spalletti, for the first time this season, has almost his entire squad available, except for Holm. Tonight, an intriguing situation awaits at the Allianz Stadium: Vlahović, David, and Openda on the bench, while Boga and Yildiz rotate in the striker role. Of course, once Vlahović reaches full fitness, there will be no doubt about who leads the attack. Spalletti has clear ideas and wants to build next season’s team around the Serbian forward.

Spalletti will continue experimenting with a 4-2-3-1 formation, which can shift into 4-3-3 or even 3-4-2-1 thanks to players like Kalulu and McKennie, who can perform multiple roles at a high level. Given Sassuolo’s obvious problems, the main topic in Turin is not tonight’s match but Spalletti’s contract extension. His current deal includes an automatic renewal clause if Champions League qualification is secured. Juventus want to act in advance and confirm their trust in Spalletti even before the objective is achieved. The goal is to show consistency in their decision to start a new cycle under his leadership, regardless of how this season ends.
