Bellingham received a red card in a game against Osasuna for offending the referee
Real Madrid is in an open war with referees in La Liga. The Royal Club believes they have been wronged multiple times this season, with the latest controversial incident being Jude Bellingham’s red card at the end of the first half in the match against Osasuna (1-1). Referee José Luis Munuera Montero showed the Englishman a direct red card for allegedly cursing at him. After the match, a debate erupted over what exactly the Real Madrid player had said. The referee's report stated that Bellingham told him "f* you,"** while the England international claims he said "f* off."** Either way, he used offensive language, and the Spanish Football Federation’s Refereeing Committee has strict rules for such situations. However, this time, it seems they were lenient.
Although there were speculations that Bellingham could receive a maximum ban of 12 matches, he was only suspended for two. This suggests that the Refereeing Committee deemed his offense less severe. He will miss the games against Girona on Sunday and Real Betis on March 2, but he will be eligible to play against Real Sociedad in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals. Jude Bellingham is not necessarily essential for Carlo Ancelotti in matches against mid-table teams, but despite that, Real Madrid has decided to file an appeal, according to AS. However, the chances of it being successful are slim, as it was a direct red card. Apart from his coach, former Real‘s sporting director Predrag Mijatović also defended the player, trying to prove that these two swear words are not the same.
“I said it recently. F**k off is not an insult. F**k you is. Fuck off is an expression like... "f**k". For those of us who know how to speak a little English, ‘f**k off‘ is like when you get angry. Bellingham did not deserve to be sent off. In this case, he did not. I think that the referees are under enormous pressure, but they should be a little more tactful in their comments and their anger. Bellingham's sending off was a bit harsh, too harsh" he said.
